Used to read the funnies every sunday at my Grandmother's house after sleeping over Saturday night,

then later on, I used to drive over there with the Sunday paper's as life rolled on

Dick Tracy used to be on the front page if I remember, then slowly he got pushed back

"As life rolled on" ....

You could get a song out of that title, graham ...

And yes ...

It did ....

And it does ...

Sunday morning coming down ....

And the Sunday funnies ....

Yes, Dick Tracy was "front-page news" back then ....

And I believe you are right ....

Charlie Brown did not come until after ....

I always liked, a couple of times a month, Dick Tracy had "Crimestopper's textbook" one comic panel on how to protect yourself,
or maybe a rogue's gallery
Wonder if they have any large "best of" of the strips back then on Tracy
I got some of other strips

I think Alan Jackson
and "Remember When" got it perfect

Say, graham ....

You got any kudzu growing down there where you are?

I keep hearing that we are being over-run by the stuff, but whenever I go outside and look for it, I can't find any ....

There is a lot of poison ivy, for sure ....

But so far as I know, that kudzu is supposed to be something else ....

And I don't think it grows up here .....

And so ...

had a discussion on a different thread about this recently I think
pie and heart showed some pictures
I had never heard of it either
We don't get it here
(just ragweed/pollen/and moss and ivy)
Livyjr
The way you hear some people talk about it, you would walk away believing that the whole world was about to be engulfed in the stuff, like in some horror movie ...

We figure it is probably people that went on a bus tour to somewhere where the stuff grows ....

And they heard someone saying down there that if we didn't watch out, that stuff was going to cover the world soon, the way it grows ....

And we figure they just freaked out and panicked, and now, that is the new version of "THE SKY IS FALLING!"

Except this time it is "RUN FOR YOUR LIFE, THE KUDZU IS COMING!"

And there are people up this way, graham, who are susceptible to panic, and they are out there, on watch for the stuff ....

Whole homeowner's groups, I hear ...

But if the stuff isn't even up to where you are down there, I figure that there is still plenty of time before the stuff gets up here ....

So I'm not going to trouble myself about it .....

When I hear that you have become overgrown in the stuff, then I'll start to get concerned ....

But until then ....

Well ...

And so ...

I think of it as wanting to develop the positive traits that you see in that person (or role) within yourself.

So, defending those who are weaker, protecting animals, teaching children and having courage were the things I saw in that movie that made me want to develop those things inside myself as I grew.

remember the movie "THE BLOB"
and the sequel

in the sequel Godfrey Cambridge was sitting in a barber chair and it came up out of the sink and covered him
it was like Jello
of all people, Larry Hagman (JR EWING) directed it, and had a cameo, with his friend Burgess Meredith (the Penquin on the old batman)

in the original, Steve McQueen was in his first movie and starred in it.

It may not grow that far north. I have heard it grows well as far north as PA, but it grows during the Summer and goes dormant during Winter, so it wouldn't have a long growing season where you guys are. It also needs a cold snap during the winter....and that's why it doesn't grow too much down in Florida.

Find the sunshine leave the rain
They said this town will waste your time
I guess they're right, it's wasting mine

Some gotta win, some gotta lose

Good time Charlie's got the blues

You know my heart keeps tellin' me
You're not a kid at thirty-three
You play around you'll lose your wife
You play too long you'll lose your life

I got my pills to ease the pain
Can’t find a thing to ease the rain
I’d love to try and settle down

How come everybody went to LA?

To make it big in show biz?

I was out there once on the train ....

There was a lay-over there .....

I asked a taxi driver to take me downtown, and he told me there was no downtown in LA ....

So we got into this argument about there having to be a downtown, and he thought I was crazy because I was in his cab without an address for him to take me to ....

I told the dude how could I have an address for a city when I had never been there before ....

He asked me what kind of an idiot gets into a cab to go somewhere when he doesn't know where he is going ....

I told him again that I wanted to go downtown ....

And he told me again there was no downtown, so I went back in to the train station and took the train up to SF ...

LA was way too stressful for me ....

And too crowded, as well .....

All you could see out there was houses jammed right in on top of each other ....

If I wanted to live that way, I'd of have been born a sardine ....

Nashville doesn't like you to use your own band
so Waylon and Willie went to Austin and released The Outlaws, Waylon,Willie, Jesse Colter(Waylon's wife) and Tompall Glaser.

Willie had been a Nashville songwriter since the 50s (he wrote Crazy for Patsy Cline and Hello Walls for Faron Young and many others, but couldn't get his own hits.

Waylon was considered the sort of court jester of the group (and a bit younger)

You know, Waylon was suppose to be on the flight that Buddy Holly died on, but gave up his seat the last minute

here are two comments on thatyou tube about that song that are intersting

One of the very few Country records to chart in the UK. There should have been many more, but how could there be without airplay?

This was taped at a tribute to Ernest Tubb. A Nashville legend says that Faron recorded this song while healing from a car wreck. He had broken his jaw in the wreck and for a short time sang with a lisp when pronouncing words that started with "S". Count the words that start with "S" in this song; there are two I think, "she" twice and "saw" once. This was taped years after he overcame the lisp after completely healing. Listen real close to the original and you can barely hear the lisp.
