so livyjr I was in Manhattan all morning and around lunchtime was by Madison Square Garden, where i noticed they had a roy rogers restaurant
Didn't know those still existed
But it wasn't just Roy, it also had a Nathan's in it.

and guess what-
I saw they sold Knish's and bought one.
Though they had it spelt wrong- Kinsh instead of Knish
and it wasn't like any Knish I had before, so I was disappointed.

sometimes you can't go home again I guess

Maybe they didn't spell it wrong, graham .....

Maybe they were trying to come up with an imitation of a knish as the new sensation ....

Like a knock-off, so to speak ....

"YOU THINK KNISHES ARE GOOD, TRY OUR KINSH, IT IS EVEN BETTER!"

Advertising, graham ....

The power of advertising ....

The kinsh is not anywhere near as good as the knish, but the power of advertising will have you believing that it is better, and doubting your own senses when you know that it is not ....

And that is touristy up there, anyway, graham ....

How many of those people eating kinshes have ever really eaten a REAL knish?

Outside of you, who would know the difference?

I could come down there from up here, and get suckered in to buying one of those kinshes, thinking I was getting a knish, and I would get ripped off and not even know about it ....

Sort of like following the Nathan's dude, only to find out that he gets his hot dogs at the same supermarket that you go to - maybe a Walmart's, even ....

Do you have a Walmart's that sells food down there where you are, graham?

And so ...
graham4anything
we don't have a Super WalMart however they do have one aisle of refrigerated food, and one aisle of canned food

I have been in those big ones on the road where they have everything(or at least bland versions of everything)

btw-do you know Walmart's sells CDS' = but they edit the cd
No dirty words
No overt sex
No controvery
If the artist won't authorize an OK to sell it, they won't sell that artist
Total blackmail

I have had kinshs on my mind all day ....

In fact, you could say that I was salivating for one .....

There is a Roy Rogers at one of the Thruway rest areas, I think, and I almost got in my vehicle to head there and get one .....

But I couldn't tell from graham's post if he got one at Roy Roger's or Nathan's .....

Maybe some type of better crowd control when they are selling those SUPER DUPER EXTRA WIDE SCREEN TV's ....

It was in the 1/2 of the store that was the Nathan's
both were in the same building Roy and Nathan's
When Roy roger's first opened, the roast beef sandwiches were really good
then someone bought them after Roy was no longer involved with it, and the roast beef seemed to taste like cardboard

it is possible they sell a Knish in the frozen food department of the supermarket, though I will not suggest they taste the rightway
I personally like the outside to be real crisp, and the potatoe inside to be fully warmed up and then to put alot of mustard on it/in it

Used to be in Coney Island/Sheapsead Bay stores that just sold Knish's of all types
(50 different fillings/ flavors of Knish)

Speaking of that, graham, did you ever get a cheese blintz at that one place near the theater district that used to sell them?

Have you ever seen a cheese blintz anywhere but NYC?

yes I did. Good for Ed.
I have nothing against the armed forces.
I have something against some of the people running it and the bad ones.
Same as the police.
Which is why the good ones should out the bad ones and get rid of them.Because all people ever hear about are the bad ones. Never said otherwise.
Same as in baseball

All players are tainted with steroids. One would think someone who knows they were not users would want to out all 100% of the ones who were, because some people look at the clean ones and say, well, he must have used too...

do you mean the Carnegie Deli that is still there, I was abused a few weeks ago by the waiters there
There are a few other places that sell it. You pay 4x too much for some items there to be treated like crap by the waiters...and people love it.
Part of the schtick! I don't really like it, but you should see their Corned Beef Sandwiches, about 8 inches high. (same with roast beef and anything else).

I would say NO Nashville does not have them, though they a few years ago actually had a NY Bagel store (which unfortunately closed quickly)
run by a NewYawker I think. Used the good ingredients and real cream cheese and LOX!!!

Of course if you want southern cooking, Nashville got some great places (but then again Sylvia's on 126th.street will beat any place down there)
and all are welcome. And get one helleva great meal too.
That is what I love livyjr- that anyone can go up to 126th street and feel welcome in Sylvia's. Whereas I personally have been to places down south
where a Jew from NYC was made to feel real uncomfortable. And real unsafe of being driven off the road by some locals.

It is possible a diner might have a Knish, though like the frozen, I would not recommend it.

Actually, a ravioli is filled with many different things today, graham, being as how this is the TWENTY-FIRST CENTURY, and not the 1900's no more ...

I just had some with lobster filling the other day, in fact, although rich for my taste buds ...

And if a knish is filled with potatoe, then where do all the different fillings and flavors come from?

Or is that just an advertising gimmick?

"ANY FILLING AND FLAVOR THAT YOU CAN EVER HOPE FOR OR DREAM OF SO LONG AS IT IS POTATOE ...."

Like the old Model "T" Fords which came in any color you wanted so long as it was black ....

yeah, they sure are.

You know, went to see French singer Charles Aznavour a few weeks ago and we were planing on eating fondue at La Bon Souppe (which is the only midtown fondue place left since LaFondue closed)...and walked there and found it had a recent fire and was fixing things up so was closed.
After much arguing, and with time narrowing to eat, we went to Carnegie (which annoyed the wife to no end because she wasnot in the mood for that) and yes, they are damn overpriced.

I got a Henny's Delight #10 special, which is a bagel w/cream cheese and lox and some deep fried potatoskins and it was $25 bucks just for that.
The man next to me (they have those long tables and sit everyone together in tight), had a red borscht soup and blintzes, and he mixed them together.
I don't know...

should have gone somewhere else

they have cleaned the street up around there.
Now all you see is the police with their guns, and the cops now are nasty ones. Back in the 70s you could joke a little with them. Now they

What is the probability that you will even find someone who speaks English?

Everybody you find down there is just as likely as not to be a tourist ....

And I have tried this experiment before down there, trying to find someone who both spoke English and who could tell me where something was ....

God help you if you are in hurry to get somewhere where you are late getting to down there, if you have to depend on asking someone where it is ...

One time, I went down by train to Manhattan and had to go to the Brooklyn Navy Yard, which of course means leaving the comfort and security of Manhattan to venture across the river to Brooklyn ...

And here, I am referring to the cab drivers, not me ....

I had trouble finding a cab driver who would go across the Brooklyn Bridge from Manhattan into Brooklyn, as if that were a totally foreign country over there ...

Finally, I found an Indian dude who would take me over only on condition that I had to tell him how to get to the Brooklyn Navy Yard, and if we got lost, I was responsible for the extra fare ....

It looks like for the first time in a month or more, it will be sunny the entire day today.

here is a perfect country song for any time of the day

so good he re-made it 10 years later himself
very obscure artist, you can hear him doing background vocals on 100s of songs

Kay-John Wesley Ryles (original, more pronounced southern accident)

Kay- John Wesley Ryles (redone with more regret almost, as if he was still driving that cab a decade later)
This has a great slide show of Nashville in the video)

a more recent great country song with a great kicker in it
Daryl Singletary(who should be a major star, he has one of the greatest voices to come along the last decade or so, but leave it to modern country to toss aside this wonderfully talented artist, who keeps it real country (and is one helleva nice guy too).

Yup. The world should do the same. Build one world and everyone will join in hand in hand in peace and prosperity and be welcome.

I like RLA's word. interdependence. We all are dependant on one another out there in the real world.

The point is that dependence is not the only alternative to independence.

Too much independence and self-reliance can be as maladaptive as too little...

And that is an alternative that is always available to people, rla ....

Why should she have been made to live to your standards as someone with a broken neck?

I was wounded in the head and neck in Viet Nam, and each day I have to live with that ....

And of course, I always consider suicide as my right and my alternative, and NOBODY can take that away from me ....

But right now, I am pretty independent, and suicide is a permanent solution to what may, upon further study, be temporary problems ...

So I don't invoke the alternative ....
