Well G, just because I know you have faith in it, I'm sure you won't get the flu, and thus, you will be fine. So, I'm happy!

I'm glad to hear you got the shot; you'll no doubt survive whatever may be coming down the pipeline at you.

Will it be the end of you if the "no shot" people are correct? No. But then you have a better chance of drowning in the bathtub ...

Will it be the end of those natsayers if they don't get it? No. But then they might drown in the bathtub later tonight too.

my father is older than you are, and he secured one a few hours after my family go tit
I told him to try at the end and he did
He went toward the very end of the session where they had a short standby line

I think these clinics count on not having any at the end of the day, so if they have a few left, anyone whois there at the very end will get it

no side effects for any of us who got it

Given the vaccine shortage graham, how did you qualify to receive the shot? Thought the priorities were all between the ages of 6 months and 18; and pregnant women.

Why You Do Not Need the H1N1 Flu Vaccine : The Temasek Review
Judging by the speed at which flu viruses replicate themselves, it would not be foolhardy to say that the new H1N1 virus might interact with an existing seasonal flu virus and emerge as a newer, hardier, not-so-seasonal strain which the ...

No problem Graham. But I must say, what is going on in the Ukraine health wise is a disaster in the making.

Gates gets H1N1 vaccine; Obama does not
from Nukes & Spooks by Nancy Youssef

Believe of not, who gets an H1N1 (Swine Flu) vaccine – and who chooses not to in light of the vaccine shortage – has become a political issue in this town. The White House announced that President and Mrs. Obama would not get the vaccine until “needs of the priority groups identified by the CDC – including young people under the age of 24, pregnant women, and people with underlying conditions – have been met.” A White House physician administered vaccines obtained through the D.C. Department of Health to the Obamas’ daughters, Malia and Sasha.

On Wednesday, Pentagon spokesman Geoff Morrell said that he believed Secretary of Defense Robert Gates received the vaccine, even though the military only has enough of the vaccine to supply half of those serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. And according to the priority list Morrell outlined to reporters at the briefing, as a DoD civilian Gates was third of the list of five groups who should receive the vaccine when it becomes available. Those in uniform, of course, have the first priority, followed by health care workers who support them.

According to the government’s website on the issue Gates needs the vaccine less than most. “People age 65 and older are not at high risk of getting H1N1. They are not in the initial target groups for vaccination, but may get vaccinated when supplies become available,” the website states.

Gates is 66.

Now, perhaps Gates has an underlying condition that demands he get the vaccine first (Morrell has yet to answer my query about this.) Or perhaps Gates was able to get the vaccine outside his capacity as Secretary of Defense.

But if Obama won’t get it and Gates will, it begs the question: Should our national leaders be a priority on the vaccine list? Should a war-time president and secretary of defense do everything they can to take care of themselves so their focus on the wars?

Or is it every Cabinet member for him/herself?

UPDATE: From Geoff Morrell about why the secretary got the shot. "It's not a political issue. He did it because he is the Secretary of Defense. He is the conduit through which the president gives orders to this department And at a time when we have security challenges around the world, even beyond wars we are fighting, the secretary thinks it is the responsible thing to do."

"Poll: One-third can find, get swine flu vaccine"

By MIKE STOBBE, AP Medical Writer

6 NOVEMBER 2009

ATLANTA – Only about a third of adults who have tried to get a swine flu vaccine have been able to get it, according to a new national poll.

That's true even for people are at extra risk for severe complications and should be at the front of the line.

The numbers are about the same for parents who tried to get the vaccine for their higher-risk children, the Harvard School of Public Health poll found.

Swine flu vaccine has been available in the United States for about a month.

But supplies have been limited because of manufacturing delays.

The shots are only supposed to be go to those at high risk of complications.

The Harvard School of Public Health telephone poll also found that half of those who tried couldn't find information about where to get the vaccine.

The survey of 1,000 adults was conducted last weekend and the results released Friday.

The margin of error was plus or minus 3.8 percentage points.

Swine flu is widespread in 48 states, officials with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Friday.

CDC officials said 129 children have died from swine flu complications since the virus was first identified in April.

The government does not keep a close count of all swine flu deaths, but estimates the number is above 1,000.

Many millions of Americans have been infected with the virus, though most suffered only mild illness, health officials say.
